The Chinese Foreign Ministry stated that the visit takes place in a context of sustained development of relations between the two countries, under the strategic guidance of their respective heads of State.
The two nations signed cooperation documents for the joint construction of the Belt and Road, and a free trade agreement.
China is Ecuador’s second trading partner and exports automobiles and spare parts, electromechanical products and steel, among other goods.
Ecuador, in turn, is China’s eighth trading partner in Latin America and supplies it with crude oil, shrimp and minerals.
The Chinese authorities highlighted that bilateral cooperation has produced results in several sectors and underscored the importance of strengthening ties between China and Ecuador.
