At an event honoring the Cuban historic leader, Zaccaro echoed Fidel Castro’s 1953 call to the “Youth of the Centennial” to keep alive the revolutionary ideals of independence hero Jose Marti, urging them to fight against the dictatorship of General Fulgencio Batista.
He said, “Just as Fidel did with those young people who followed him to make the triumphant revolution in 1959, “Today we, the friends and supporters of the Cuban people and those of the Centennial of Fidel, must keep his ideals alive in the circumstances that call us together nowadays: to fight against the genocidal blockade of the United States and support Cuba at all times.”
He remembered that amid the Covid-19 pandemic, Cuba developed three vaccines to fight this deadly disease, but lacked the syringes and needles to immunize their people. In response, MASCuba launched a campaign to collect and send them to the island.
Leonardo Baster, charge d’affaires at the Cuban Embassy in this nation, after thanking them for this gesture of solidarity, described the difficult circumstances in which the island’s people currently live, commended their resilience, and reiterated the willingness to continue confronting the fierce hostility of Washington’s policies without abandoning the principles bequeathed by Fidel.
Events, festivals, discussions, and concerts have been held in recent weeks to honor Fidel Castro, in which was reiterated the condemnation of the intense economic war of the administration of US President Donald Trump, exacerbated by a fierce oil siege designed to deprive the Caribbean nation of energy.
