Nicaragua calls to strengthen international solidarity with Cuba

Managua, Aug 27 (Agency) Irma Franco, a member of the Nicaraguan solidarity movement "Amor por Cuba" (Love for Cuba), called for strengthening international solidarity with Cuba and denouncing the blockade policy implemented by the United States against the island.

In an article titled “Cuba cannot keep resisting alone: the world’s silence also acts as a blockade,” shared on social media, Franco noted that U.S. sanctions and restrictions affect the daily lives of the Cuban people.

The author pointed out that fuel shortages have impacted transportation, food production, and the operations of hospitals, schools, and industries.

She also mentioned prolonged power outages and difficulties in accessing medicines, food, and other essential goods.

Furthermore, she questioned the international community’s passivity regarding this situation, even though the majority of countries condemn the blockade annually at the United Nations General Assembly.

The “Amor por Cuba” member cited statements by Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel, who has noted that the persistence of the blockade is also linked to the lack of action by the rest of the world to end it.

In Franco’s view, international silence and indifference contribute to the continuation of a policy she considers contrary to the principles of international law and the sovereign equality of states.

Speaking on behalf of the “Amor por Cuba-Nicaragua” movement, she reaffirmed solidarity with the Cuban people and rejected the use of a nation’s suffering as an instrument of political pressure.
