Brazil: Workers rally to end 6×1 work schedule

Brasilia, Aug 30 (Prensa Latina) Brazilian workers will take to the streets nationwide to demand an end to the 6x1 work schedule and pressure the Senate to approve the Constitutional Amendment Proposal (PEC) on the issue.

The Sunday street demand was called by the Central Workers’ Union (CUT), the Central of Men and Women Workers of Brazil (CTB), the Forza Sindical (Trade Union Center-FS), other labor organizations, the Life Beyond Work movement, the Popular Brazil front and the Fearless People front.

Several capital cities and other towns across the country, including Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador, Curitiba, Fortaleza, Natal, Aracaju, Porto Alegre, Sao Luis, Belem, and Goiania, will host demonstrations.

The Sao Paulo rally will be held this morning outside the city’s Art Museum on Paulista Avenue.

The mobilization comes on the eve of a week of concentrated action by the National Congress, scheduled from August 31 to September 4, during which labor unions seek to intensify pressure on senators.

The so-called 6×1 work schedule establishes six days of work followed by one day of rest and is used especially in sectors such as commerce and services.
