The Commerce Ministry informed that He Lifeng, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party Central Committee, will lead the Chinese delegation for the talks with the US.
The institution noted that both sides’ consultations would proceed “under the guidance of the important consensus reached by the heads of state and would address economic and trade issues of mutual interest.”
This new round follows a statement by the Commerce Ministry on September 17, noting that China’s economic and trade teams and the United States were holding close communication regarding issues related to tariff negotiations.
Beijing and Washington are keeping consultations on a mechanism to reduce tariffs on products worth nearly 30 billion dollars from each side, an initiative both countries agreed on.
This round of consultations will precede the scheduled meeting between US President Donald Trump and his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, announced by US and international sources for September 24.
