An estimated 13.8 million Ecuadorians will cast their vote to elect prefects, mayors, urban and rural councilors, parish board members, and seven members of the Council for Citizen Participation and Social Control (CPCCS).
The debates will involve candidates from jurisdictions with more than 100,000 registered voters.
Citizens can participate in a CNE-sponsored survey from October 1 to 14 to propose issues for the National Debates Committee to define four thematic areas.
The issues will relate to the jurisdictions’ respective powers, specifically those of prefectures and municipalities, and proposals included in candidates’ work plans. The committee will determine the final topics and methodology.
The electoral process takes place amid criticism from opposition sectors regarding decisions that limit the participation of certain political organizations and candidates.
