Cuba denounces US policy and thanks Mexico for its solidarity

Mexico City, Oct 9 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel denounced the United States' criminal policy against the island, expressed gratitude for Mexico's solidarity with his country, and affirmed that the Caribbean nation will not surrender.

“Cuba suffers daily from the empire’s criminal, fascist, and hostile policy, which negatively impacts every aspect of national life,” he said in a message sent to the opening of the 30th International Seminar “Parties and a New Society,” organized by the Labor Party.

In the video, the Cuban leader—who also serves as First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba—noted that for Washington, an economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed for over 60 years was not enough, nor was the implementation of hundreds of unilateral and extraterritorial coercive measures.

“To achieve their macabre goals, it was also necessary to issue two presidential executive orders,” he pointed out, referring to the order from last January 29—which declared Cuba an unusual and extraordinary threat to U.S. national security—and the order from May 1, which justified the application of secondary sanctions with a distinct extraterritorial character.

He asserted that measures intensifying the energy blockade have taken on an extraterritorial nature; despite numerous efforts, no fuel tanker has entered Cuban ports.

He noted that this situation has led to increased power outages and severely impacted the normal functioning of all institutions within the healthcare system.

Added to this are disruptions to water supplies, transportation, and food processing and preservation—to cite just a few examples of the “silent genocide to which we are being subjected,” he stated.

However, he stated, “when the U.S. government intensifies its policy against our people, the conviction driving the struggle is that Cuba will prevail and will not surrender”; a testament to this is that the island already generates 21.4 percent of its electricity from renewable energy sources.
