Organized by the Cuban Fund for Cultural Assets (FCBC), this edition of the event focuses on Mexican handicrafts and goldsmithing, featuring 55 exhibitors from Mexico, Havana, Guantanamo, and the host province.
The opening ceremony was attended by Yoel Queipo Ruiz, First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) Provincial Committee in Holguin; Yaquelin Tapia, Provincial Director of Culture; and Manuel Hernandez Ramos, Director General of the FCBC.
The opening show combined a fashion showcase by the Modas Fantasia company—directed by Fernando Hernandez and featuring designs using Cuban fabrics by creator Maria del Carmen Aguilera—with musical performances by baritone Edgar Torres, Liz Ponce de Leon, and the group Feeling Voices. They paid tribute to national music with pieces such as “Candil de nieve” by composer Raul Torres.
During the event, the FCBC presented career achievement awards to creators Leticia Azze Leyva, Jose Emilio, Javier Diaz Zaldivar, and Alfredo Jimenez, as well as to historian Victor Nonel.
Special recognition was also given to architect Carmen Hernández for her unwavering contribution to the event.
The cultural event’s exhibition and sales fair will remain open to the public at the Expo-Holguin fairgrounds until October 24.
