Mexican collective sets up collection center to support Cuba

Mexico City, Oct 9 (Prensa Latina) The "Solidaridad Militante Va por Cuba" (Militant Solidarity for Cuba) collective has set up a collection drive for milk and medicines for the island at Mexico City's Monument to the Revolution, running through Sunday.

“Let us show our solidarity with Cuba. The best way to commemorate the fall of Che Guevara is to support Cuba,” the organization stated on social media, coinciding with the 59th anniversary of the killing of revolutionary Ernesto Guevara in La Higuera, Bolivia.

Highlighting that Che’s actions and ideas remain an example for humanity, they called on the capital’s residents to show their support for Cuba.

The collective and other groups—such as the Jose Marti Association of Cubans Residing in Mexico and the Mexican Movement of Solidarity with Cuba—have gathered and shipped to the Caribbean nation, over recent months, consignments of material aid donated by citizens.

For more than six decades, the United States has imposed an economic, commercial, and financial blockade on Cuba; this was tightened last January by an executive order signed by U.S. President Donald Trump.

The lack of access to fuel resulting from this intensification drastically affects critical areas such as electricity generation, hospital operations, food production and distribution, and water pumping in the Caribbean country.

The Republican’s threats and other coercive measures by Washington against the island have sparked rejection and condemnation from grassroots sectors, governments, and politicians in Mexico and other nations around the world.
