Zelensky rejects calls to resign and hold presidential elections

Kyiv, Oct 15 (Prensa Latina) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky rejected calls to resign and said holding presidential elections in his country is impossible, he affirmed in an interview with British presenter Piers Morgan on Thursday.

When asked whether he intended to resign, Zelensky replied, “Of course not. It is my responsibility,” he said despite US President Donald Trump insisting on the matter.

When asked whether possible to hold presidential elections in Ukraine, as demanded by Trump, the president responded, “Certainly not.”

Zelensky’s presidential term officially expired on May 20, 2024. However, Kyiv decided not to hold the next elections, arguing that it is impossible while martial law remains in effect.

On October 10, Trump said Zelensky should call for elections, adding that he has already had many opportunities to end the conflict in Ukraine and reach a peace agreement.
