The president’s remarks came during a meeting in Beirut with the ambassadors of Scandinavian countries accredited to Lebanon: the ambassador of Norway, Hilde Haraldstad; the ambassador of Sweden, Jessica Svardström; and the ambassador of Denmark, Kristoffer Vivikke, the Lebanese Presidency reported in a statement.

During the meeting, Aoun addressed the situation in the country in light of the intensified Israeli attacks against the southern suburbs of Beirut, southern Lebanon, and the Bekaa Valley in the east of the country.

The president noted that these bombings have caused more than 400 deaths, including women, children, and the elderly.

He emphasized that his country’s position remains firm and recalled that the Lebanese cabinet reaffirmed its commitment last week to the Declaration of Cessation of Hostilities agreed upon in November 2024.

He explained that this agreement seeks to preserve peace and stability in the region, in exchange for Israel’s commitment to cease attacks against Lebanese territory.

The president added that Lebanon informed international powers and the United Nations of its full readiness to resume negotiations and discuss the security aspects necessary to halt the escalation.
