UN agencies continue aid work in Lebanon
United Nations, Aug 14 (Prensa Latina) Different UN agencies currently continue their assistance efforts in Lebanon, especially distributing medicines and essential supplies, Stephane Dujarric, spokesperson for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, informed.
After last week's explosions in the Beirut port, the United Nations Refugee Agency has provided medicines and health services in mobile health clinics, the spokesperson said.
Hundreds of people have already received first aid services and psychosocial support, and a helpline has been established to conveniently respond the requests for assistance, Dujarric said.
The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), facilitates the logistics and distribution of 10,000 tetanus vaccines, and emergency kits and medicines to the primary healthcare centers.
In addition, a shipment from the World Food Program with 17,500 metric tons of wheat flour is expected to arrive in Lebanon on August 20.
