Priority of Russian tourism for Cuba highlighted
Moscow, Sep 10 (Prensa Latina) Russian tourism continues to be a priority for Cuba, where optimal conditions are being created for the arrival of holiday goers, especially from Russia, as soon as Covid-19 travel restrictions are lifted.
Cuba's Tourism counselor in Russia, Juan Carlos Escalona, asserted it during the presentation of his country's stand at the Otdij-2020 tourism fair, in Moscow's Skolkovo center.
'We have come to the exhibition with expectations that the Russian State opens the tourist flow to Cuba. We hope it happens before the end of the year, and we are ready to welcome the tourists at our beaches,' he said.
'Talks are currently underway, the usual tour operators are ready and have already informed of their willingness to immediately resume operations, when the restart of flights is authorized,' Escalona added.
The official indicated that 200,000 Russians were expected for this year, and more than 70,000 had already arrived in the first three months of 2020, for a growth of 50 percent compared to the same period last year.
Russia ranks second in issuing tourists to Cuba, with Canada ranking first, with more than one million, the official stated.
Escalona predicts that charter flights will resume. 'It is possible for next year to fall short of the planned figure, as we expected 250,000 and even 300,000 tourists from this country,' he pointed out.
