Syria organizes international conference on refugees

Damascus, Oct 31 (Prensa Latina) Syria will host an international conference on refugees on November 11 and 12 and hopes that it will conclude with positive results favorable to the return of nationals and normality in their lives.
The organizers today emphasized the importance that the debates contribute to alleviating the suffering of Syrians in conditions of extreme subsistence, and allow their return to the homeland.
The Syrian authorities are betting on the success of this event to which they invited neighboring countries, regional countries and other parts of the world to support the efforts aimed at guaranteeing a decent situation for the refugees and putting an end to that situation, according to the press.
Syria and Russia denounced the attempts of some countries to abort the conference and exert pressure on the states that wish to participate, and deplored that certain regional and western governments continue to politicize this humanitarian issue and use it as a letter of political pressure.
The blockade and sanctions imposed on Syria by the United States and the European Union seriously affected the economic situation of this nation, whose authorities are working with very limited resources to restore the infrastructure of services affected by terrorism in the liberated areas, where the conditions for the return of refugees.
According to official data, one million refugees abroad and five million internally displaced people returned to their homes thanks to the consolidation of security and stability in most of the Syrian territory.
According to national sources, the event is important and promising since it is held in Damascus and not like the previous ones held in other countries, in which the refugee issue was addressed from a political and non-humanitarian perspective and on the basis of scenarios of 'political and financial blackmail'.
