Syrian president opens International Conference on Refugees
Damascus, Nov 11 (Prensa Latina) For Syria, the problem of the refugee is also a humanitarian issue, in addition to being a national and a priority issue, President Bashar al-Assad said on Wednesday when he opened the International Conference on the subject.
'Welcome in Syria, which, although it has suffered from long years of war, the cruelty of the siege and the criminality of terrorism, it still cheers for meeting its true lovers and those who are truly loyal and who bear in their hearts, minds and conscience the human cause in every time and place,' Assad stressed.
In this regard, the president especially thanked Russia and Iran for their great efforts and work in supporting the convening of this conference despite of all international attempts to foil it, and also for their true support that helped to easing the repercussions of the war and the siege.
'The obstacles are large, and in addition to the pressure exerted on Syrian refugees abroad to prevent them from returning, the illegitimate economic sanctions and the blockade imposed by the US regime and its allies hinder the efforts exerted by the institutions of the Syrian state,' Assad said.
Such Syria's effort aims to rehabilitate the infrastructure in the areas which had been destroyed by terrorism so as the refugees can return and live a decent life in normal conditions, he said.
Delegations from Russia, Iran, China, Pakistan, Oman and Lebanon, among other nations, as well as United Nations observers are attending the meeting, to be run until Thursday at the Conference Center in Damascus.
