New shipment of Covid-19 vaccine arrives in Chile
Santiago de Chile, Jan 13 (Prensa Latina) A new shipment of 88,725 doses of Covid-19 vaccine arrived in Chile from Belgium on Wednesday to continue with the immunization plan the government has put in place.
This shipment is the third after another two that arrived in recent weeks with a cumulative 21,000 doses, and were used to immunize health personnel directly linked to the fight with the pandemic in hospitals in the capital and other regions of the country.
The Undersecretary of Health, Paula Daza, pronounced a speech at the Arturo Merino international airport, where the cargo was received, pointing out that these doses will be destined to the regions where vaccination has not yet begun and in order to complete the immunization of those who have already received the first dose.
The government of Chile intends to vaccinate the 15 million people identified within the target population in this first half of the year.
The country is currently experiencing an outbreak of Covid-19 throughout the territory, considered by many specialists as the second wave of the disease and which they predict could be stronger than the first.
To date, Chile reported 17,182 deaths and 649,135 infected since the first Covid-19 patient was reported on March 3rd, 2020.
