San Jose, Jan 18 (Prensa Latina) Costa Rican President Carlos Alvarado asked Congress on Monday for the approval of the Public Employment Reform bill, criticized and rejected by social and union sectors, considering it violates social and labor rights.
'I want to start this week by respectfully requesting that lawmakers approve the Public Employment project,' the president posted on Twitter.
'This important reform, which complies with international standards, is key to reducing public spending in the future, addressing the fiscal deficit deepened by the Covid-19 pandemic, and introducing greater justice and equal pay among public servants performing similar duties,' Alvarado said.
We must take this necessary step on the path of the State reform and the search for public efficiency to benefit Costa Rica, he concluded.
Meanwhile, a manifesto of social and trade union organizations, grouped in the National Rescue Movement (MRN), released on Friday, ensures that this bill puts excessive powers in the hands of the Executive Power.
The bill can harm the rights of state workers, putting quality of public services at risk.
