Havana, Jan 23 (Prensa Latina) Cuba confirmed today 567 new Covid19 cases and three deaths in the past hours due to this disease. In a TV press conference, the director of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Public Health, Dr. Francisco Duran, regretted the deaths, which have amounted to 191 since the beginning of the pandemic across the country in March 2020.
Thus, the Caribbean island records 20,627 people diagnosed with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, which causes the disease.
The 15 provinces of the country and the special municipality of Isla de la Juventud (Isle of Youth) have cases, and this shows the spread of the disease, which makes detection and control more difficult, the expert said.
On talking about the epidemiological situation, Duran said that of 9,068 patients, 3,244 are suspected infected patients, 1,304 under surveillance and 4,520 active ones are currently hospitalized in medical institutions.
Some 4,474 have a stable clinical evolution, while 13 are in critical condition and 33 in a serious one.
He also pointed out that of the 567 new cases, 532 are local and 35 are imported. In addition, 509 were contacts of others confirmed, and it was not possible to know the origin of contagion of 24.
The epidemiologist stressed that, since November 15, when operations at Cuban airports were resumed, 6,702 patients confirmed with Covid-19 have had contact with travelers coming from abroad.
He also drew attention again on the care of minors, due to the fact that, on Friday, 69 people under 20 years of age were diagnosed.
Of these, 57 are children, and the number of patients of this age group still hospitalized with the disease is 437.
To date, the specialist noted, three children remain in serious condition, one of whom is a seven-month-old infant. In total, 2,200 children have fallen ill with Covid-19 in Cuba since March 11, 2020.
On the other hand, he explained that of the 567 reported today, 245 were asymptomatic at the time of the PCR test, and the total number of people without symptoms during the pandemic amounts to 12,387.
He described the balance between medical discharges and confirmed cases as positive, because 570 people recovered from Covid-19 in the past hours.
The number of recoveries thus reaches 15,881 over the more than 10 months of pandemic in this Caribbean country.
To detect the coronavirus, 14,371 samples were studied yesterday. The total of RT PCR tests analyzed amounts to 1,752,651.
With Saturday's figures, Cuba records an incidence rate of 57.72 per 100,000 inhabitants in the past 15 days, and the provinces with the highest numbers are Guantanamo, Havana, Matanzas and Santiago de Cuba.
