Ethiopia's ambassador to expand cooperation with Prensa Latina
Havana, Apr 21 (Prensa Latina) Ethiopia's Ambassador to Cuba Shribu Mamo and Prensa Latina's president Luis Enrique Gonzalez on Wednesday agreed in Havana to expand the dissemination of news on Ethiopia's current affairs in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Gonzalez received at the headquarters of the Latin American news agency in Havana the head of mission, Mamo, who updated him on the main events in the political, economic and social life of Ethiopia in the African Horn.
'The media are currently powerful and necessary weapons for the dissemination of the reality of our countries, and Prensa Latina is characterized by the seriousness of its informative work. That is why, we are here today to strengthen cooperation in this important field,' the diplomat stated.
Mamo began his functions on Cuba in January after presenting his credentials to President Miguel Diaz-Canel.
The ambassador outlined that Ethiopia is nowadays facing three events of major relevance: negotiations with Egypt and Sudan on the Grand Renaissance Dam, the border dispute with the latter country and the preparation of the June 5 general elections.
In the first case, Addis Ababa is boosting tripartite negotiations mediated by the African Union with Cairo and Khartoum, so far without agreement, while seeking a peaceful solution - Mamo assured- for the withdrawal of Sudanese troops in the border strip known as the Fashqa Triangle.
Likewise, the authorities are finalizing the details for the holding of the general elections, which were postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, from which will emerge the new Parliament that will choose the Prime Minister for the new mandate.
