Costa Rica speeds up vaccination as new Covid-19 cases increase

San José, Apr 7 (Prensa Latina) Costa Rica is today speeding up its Covid-19 vaccination campaign due to the increased new cases, with 504,930 Pfizer / BioNTech doses administered since December 24, 2020.

According to the Integrated Vaccine System, out of the total doses applied by the vaccination teams of the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) 291,368 are first doses and 213,562 second doses.

The CCSS decision to speed up immunization during Holy Week contributed to increasing the amount of vaccines administered, when 75,424 doses were applied.

The vaccination speeding-up responds to latent possibility of increased positive cases, those hospitalized and especially patients in Intensive Care Units, as shown by figures disclosed on Tuesday by Health Minister Daniel Salas.
