In February, the MEP started the 2021 school year using blending teaching a mixture of face-to-face-and virtual modality, but now, in view of peak of Covid-19 cases, the unions demand to only choose online classes.

The petition, disclosed in social networks, is signed by the Association of Secondary School Teachers, the National Association of Educators, the Union of Educators of Costa Rican Education and the Union of School Canteen Workers and Related.

Members of the Joint Labor Relations Board, the text of those groups points out that the Covid-19 situation is serious, with the highest number of Covid-19 patients, as well as people hospitalized in intensive care units, which has collapsed the healthcare services.

The petition refers that they have already acquired valuable experience in distance teaching work, which allowed them to successfully complete the 2020 school year and can continue and improve in 2021; always with the idea of safeguarding the health of students, teachers, administrators, as well as parents.

‘This is a transcendental moment to avoid further contagions, so the change to the virtual teaching modality is of utmost importance and urgency; therefore, we demand that it be implemented as soon as possible,’ Unions’ members emphasize.
