Venezuela celebrated sentence of the International Court of Justice

Delcy-venezuela-500x333
Caracas, Apr 6 (Prensa Latina) Venezuela today celebrated the incidental sentence of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) by validating the arguments that the illegal and fraudulent conduct of the United Kingdom can be reviewed.

Accompanied by Foreign Minister Yván Gil and Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino, Executive Vice President Delcy Rodríguez read a statement in which she also praised that the ruling made clear the existence and validity of the 1966 Geneva Agreement.

The Bolivarian Republic considers this agreement as the only valid instrument to settle this territorial dispute.

The note stressed that Caracas does not recognize the judicial mechanism as a means of solving the aforementioned dispute because it “excludes the nature and purpose of this agreement.”

Venezuela, she remarked, will evaluate its implications in an “exhaustive manner and will adopt all the measures at its disposal” to defend its legitimate rights and territorial integrity.

Likewise, she reminded and reiterated to the Cooperative Republic of Guyana that the 1966 Geneva Agreement is “the only valid and current instrument” to resolve the dispute over the territory of Guyana Esequiba, through political negotiations for the sake of a practical and mutually satisfactory solution.

The text indicated that for the first time in its history, Venezuela attended the ICJ in defense of its sovereignty and territorial integrity over Guayana Esequiba.

She recalled that in June and November 2022, with rigorous, forceful and abundant documentation, she demonstrated the fraudulent mechanisms used by the United Kingdom of Great Britain to seize its territory.

The statement added that it was that State that since 1840 “forged maps and set up a stratagem” to perpetrate the fraudulent arbitration committed against Venezuela in Paris in 1899.

She claimed that it was the UK that finally signed and compromised in the Geneva Agreement in 1966 “in order to find a practical and mutually satisfactory solution to the territorial dispute”.

The Bolivarian Government summoned all the Venezuelan people to the national union in defense of the historical and territorial legacy of Father Liberator Simón Bolívar and in compliance with the constitutional values of peace, integrity and sovereignty in the strictest respect for International Law.

This Thursday, the ICJ unanimously determined that the preliminary objection filed by Venezuela on the dispute with Guyana over the Essequibo territory is admissible, but rejected it by a majority vote of 14 to one.
