Aoun affirmed during a videoconference with European Union (EU) officials that the recent missile attacks launched by the Hezbollah resistance movement are “a trap and an ambush” for Lebanon and its people.
The president expressed that those who carried out those attacks sought to provoke the collapse of the Lebanese State for the benefit of foreign interests.
The head of State indicated that the government has decided to prohibit any military or security activity by the resistance movement, and the implementation of this measure will be carried out according to the army command’s plan when security conditions permit.
He also described Hezbollah as an armed group that operates outside of state authority and acts against the interests of the country.
Aoun proposed a four-point initiative to end the conflict, among them a complete ceasefire with Israel and the logistical strengthening of the Lebanese army to assume control of security and confiscate the group’s weapons caches.
