Chile promotes Economic Partnership Agreement with India

Santiago, Chile, Apr 9 (Prensa Latina) Chile expects to finalize a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement with India this year, in an effort to strengthen and diversify its foreign trade, according to a statement published today on the Foreign Ministry's website.

The topic was discussed in a videoconference with Chilean Foreign Minister Francisco Pérez Mackenna and Indian Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal.

With more than 1.4 billion inhabitants, the Asian country will be the world’s third largest economy by 2030, so partnering with this powerhouse at this time opens up great opportunities for us, said Pérez Mackenna.

Last year, trade between Chile and India grew by 50 percent, reaching US$5.5 billion, but there is potential for further increase.

Currently, trade is concentrated in products such as copper, pulp, and food.
