Erdogan explained during a joint press briefing with Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi that they exchanged views on the regional situation, particularly the events related to Iran, Syria, and Palestine.
The president remembered the strategic steps taken with former Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani to institutionalize bilateral relations and expressed his confidence that these ties will reach a more advanced level during Al-Zaidi’s term.
The head of State noted that the regional situation is driving both countries to deepen cooperation not only in defense, but also in energy and transportation.
He stressed that energy cooperation is one of the pillars of bilateral relations and stated that the agreement regarding the oil pipeline between Turkiye and Iraq expired on Tuesday.
Erdogan expressed that the two countries, among those most affected by climate change, share a commitment to strengthening cooperation for the sustainable use of water resources. jdt/iff/ro/fm
