Kamikawa told a press conference that Tokyo will contribute some 35 million dollars to boost the work of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
The humanitarian situation in the Palestinian territory of Gaza continues to worsen. It is our country’s responsibility to respond to the crisis as a member of the UN Security Council, the Foreign Minister said.
Japan had scheduled such a budget for fiscal year 2023, which ended in March; but it suspended it in January following allegations of involvement of UNRWA personnel in last year’s attack on Israel by the militant group Hamas.
