Panama, 5 Sep (Prensa Latina) With 2,176.60 Covid-19 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, Panama reportedly led this rate in the Americas until August 30, according to the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).
It surpassed Chile, Peru, Brazil and the United States, countries that had figures above the continental average of 1,278.70; it also occupied the sixth place in the region in average mortality with 47.2 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants, with a sustained tendency to increase, according to the international organization.
However, PAHO's report recognizes the low lethality (deaths by infected cases) with an average of 2.2, the third lowest in the region, which Panamanian authorities show as a success in the confrontation to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The analysis assures that 75.5 percent of those infected in the country are concentrated in six regions, mostly located in the capital, the neighboring province of West Panama and the central Veraguas, where most of the population also lives, while in the rest of the country has a quarter of the 95,596 cases reported to date.
